It’s not uncommon to open the Task Manager and see that the Firefox web browser is eating up lots of memory (it is eating up 150MB of RAM as I write this, and I opened the browser just now). Memory leaks have always plagued the browser. Mozilla worked hard to address Firefox memory leaks but, even though the problem has gotten better over time, the problem is not completely gone. And because it is not gone, Rizonesoft rolled out Firemin, a tool that aims to “tame the fox.”

Firemin works with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7, and Windows 8. It works with 32 as well as 64-bit versions of the operating system. While Firemin is up and running, you will see a cool icon in the system tray – the Firefox 2005 icon by Jairo Boudewyn (weboso).

As mentioned above, Firemin’s aim is to “tame the fox.” You see, you can use Fireminkeep to save the amount of memory that Firefox uses in check. Firefox can eat up as much as 150MB the moment you launch it. As you keep using it, the memory goes up. Let Firefox up and running for a couple of days and it could end up eating up some 800MB of RAM. Memory leaks are to blame for this – Firemin fixes them, it ensures that Firefox does not eat up lots of RAM.

Here’s a quick look at the features you can expect to get from Firemin: launch Firefox; launch Firefox in Safe Mode; use the SQLite Vacuum function to optimize the databases; start Firemin when Windows starts; launch Firefox when Firemin starts; use a slider to set the memory optimization.

As of August 2014, Firemin is open source software released under a GNU GPL (General Public License).

If your Firefox web browser uses up lots of RAM, get Firemin and it will address the problem. It is a memory booster that focuses on keeping Firefox in check.

Pros

Firefox works with 32 and 64-bit Windows editions, anything from XP to 8. Use Firemin to make sure that Firefox does not use lots of memory. You can set it so Firemin launches at startup; you can also set it so Firefox launches when Firemin starts. Firemin is free and open source software.

Cons

None that I could think of.
